CYGNUS HEAVY DUTY

CYGNUS HEAVY DUTY

MULTIPLE ECHO ULTRASONIC THICKNESS GAUGE

Cygnus Instruments have designed the Cygnus Heavy Duty ultrasonic thickness gauge for use in tough and demanding environments where a rugged construction is essential to accurately gauge corrosion measurement and determine metal thickness without having to removing protective coatings.

The Cygnus Heavy Duty is dirt resistant, dust resistant and water resistant. Its shock-proof construction takes into account the unstable environments in which corrosion thickness measurements and structural inspections are performed, resulting in a metal thickness gauge that is able to withstand accidental drops, bangs and knocks

Cygnus Instruments builds all of its equipment in the UK using only genuine and original parts and components – including Lemo® Connectors and Peli® Cases.

CYGNUS MINI ROV MOUNTABLE

CYGNUS MINI ROV MOUNTABLE

MULTIPLE ECHO ULTRASONIC THICKNESS GAUGE

The Cygnus Mini ROV Mountable thickness gauge has been specially designed to be mounted onto small observation ROVs with or without a manipulator facility. Built in conjunction with VideoRay, this mountable subsea thickness gauge will allow the operator to carry out an ultrasonic thickness measurement in areas that have previously been unfeasible using larger ROVs or divers. The multiple echo thickness gauge measures metal thickness and corrosion without removing protective coatings.

Dedicated software displays the time, date and thickness readings on the surface which can all be stored or logged. Alternatively, an optional Topside Repeater (TSR) is available which has the facility to display the thickness measurements remotely and overlay them on to a video signal. This allows the measurements to be superimposed on the ROV camera’s monitor screen.

The unit is pressure tested to 1,500 ft (500 m).

Please see examples of ROV ultrasonic thickness gauges using the Cygnus Mini ROV thickness gauge:

MULTIPLE ECHO ULTRASONIC THICKNESS GAUGE

Specifically designed for underwater remotely operated vehicles, Cygnus offers a dedicated ROV Mountable thickness gauge, depth rated to 2,000 m. This mountable measurement gauge again, benefits from the multiple-echo technology found in all our ultrasonic measuring devices. It is truly versatile and designed to measure metal thickness through coatings in the harshest operating conditions.

Dedicated software reveals the date, time and thickness readings on the surface which may be logged or stored. In addition, a Topside Repeater (TSR) is available providing the ability to present the thickness measurements remotely and overlay them on to a video signal. This permits the measurements to be superimposed on the ROV camera’s monitor screen.

CYGNUS PIT GAUGE

CORROSION TOOLS & MARINE ACCESSORIES

Ideal for measuring depth of pitting in steel plate, the Cygnus Marine Pit Gauge has a range of (0″ – 1.69″ (0 – 43 mm). Manufactured for reinforced plaster with stainless steel fittings.

CYGNUS S1 PROBE HANDLER

CYGNUS S1 PROBE HANDLER

The Cygnus S1 ROV Probe Handler is designed for performing UT measurement surveys on ships’ hulls with an Observation or Light work class ROV.

On contact with the hull plate, two sets of magnets first grip the steel, then as the ROV pushes forward the UT probe is allowed to tilt to align it to the hull surface, placing the UT probe in the optimal position for measurement with the ROV pilot just having to maintain gentle forward thrust while the thickness measurement is taken.

The S1 probe holder is constructed from acetyl with stainless steel fixings to reduce the overall weight.

Please see more information on VideoRay ROV Ultrasonic Metal Thickness Gauge using the Cygnus Mini ROV thickness gauge and probe handlers.

CYGNUS UNDERWATER

CYGNUS UNDERWATER

The Cygnus Underwater is the original diver held subsea multiple echo ultrasonic thickness gauge. It was designed for use by divers undertaking subsea maintenance and surveys 3 decades ago… and today it is still the industry standard.

The unit is depth rated to 300 meters (1,000 ft) and it provides an accurate metal thickness measurement through coatings up to 20 mm (0.787 in) thick using Deep Coat mode (upon request). The bright LED display ensures easy viewing even in poor visibility conditions.

The Cygnus Underwater thickness gauge is supplied ready to use as a complete kit with 2 rechargeable batteries in a protective carry case.

Cygnus Instruments builds all of its equipment in the UK using only genuine and original parts and components – including Lemo® Connectors and Peli® Cases.

CYGNUS W1 PROBE HANDLER

CYGNUS W1 PROBE HANDLER

The Cygnus W1 Probe Handler is designed for use on Work Class ROVs. It can be held by a manipulator arm and supplied with either T bar or Fish Tail handles. Constructed from 316 stainless steel throughout, it has a depth rating of 4000 msw.

The Ultrasonic probe alignment is provided by a double jointed coupling that enables 15 degrees of movement in both planes guided by four pins. A shock absorbing spring reduces any impact loading on the unit. The design allows the manipulator arm to present the ultrasonic probe to the surface to be measured. Any misalignment will be taken up by the coupling resulting in less movement of the manipulator arm position.

CYGNUS SINGLE CRYSTAL ULTRASONIC PROBES

SINGLE CRYSTAL ULTRASONIC PROBES

SINGLE CRYSTAL ULTRASONIC PROBES

Cygnus single crystal probes are for use with the gauge in Multiple-Echo mode to read through and ignore coatings.

These have one piezo-ceramic crystal. This crystal both sends and receives the ultrasound energy.

The S2C single crystal 2.25 MHz 13 mm (0.51 in) probe is recommended for the majority of applications and can be used to read through coatings up to 20 mm (0.79 in) thick with the gauge in Deep Coat mode.

CYGNUS TWIN CRYSTAL ULTRASONIC PROBES

TWIN CRYSTAL ULTRASONIC PROBES

TWIN CRYSTAL ULTRASONIC PROBES

Cygnus twin crystal (dual element) probes are for use with the gauge in Single-Echo or Echo-Echo modes.

The probe face is divided into two: one semi-circle transmits the ultrasound energy and the other receives it back.

They have a hard wear face which will eventually wear down. The gauge will automatically “Zero” the probe to compensate for wear (until there is excessive wear when the probe should be replaced). The gauge will indicate when the probe needs changing with a warning message.

In Echo-Echo mode, up to 1 mm (0.04 in) of coating can be read through and ignored. Single-Echo mode can only be used on bare surfaces or where coatings have been removed.

The T5B twin crystal 5 MHz 8 mm (0.315 in) probe is recommended for the majority of applications in Single-Echo and Echo-Echo modes.
